How to use keywords effectively
5 - Keywords
Keywords are a pretty big deal for copywriters. They help you produce relevant, streamlined content that targets the right users. It's a crucial component of content writing, and a sure-fire way to keep you focused on the main topic.
Keywords are topical words or phrases that indicate what your content is about, helping the search engine to correctly classify and rank your content.
When Google crawls web pages to find content that matches a user’s search intent, it checks for keywords that match the specific query.
Keywords, keywords everywhere
There are two types of keywords:
- Primary keywords (or short-tail keywords)
- Secondary keywords (or long-tail keywords)
Primary keywords are shorter, usually 1-3 words, while secondary keywords are longer phrases that are less frequently searched for.
A primary keyword is usually the most important, while secondary keywords may support the primary one but not have a high search volume on its own.
For example, copywriting agency might be a primary keyword. Online London-based copywriting agency could be a secondary keyword.
