Definition of succinct: expressed clearly and in few words

Succinct writing is an art, a science, and an essential skill for online writers.

Why should you write succinctly? 3 main reasons:

1. A succinct writing style respects your reader's time.

2. Succinct writing makes it easier to digest information.

3. A succinct writing style forces you to be precise with your words.

Here are three examples of 3 brands that adopt a succinct writing style in their content:

  1. dslx blog
At dslx we value our readers’ time and strive for clarity. We use bullet points, precise words, a neat layout, and anything that will make our content as clear, concise, and valuable as it can be. See this yourself by reading one of our blog posts.

We’ve coined the term RX Writing (Reader experience writing).

  1. Maze
Maze is the user research platform that makes user insights available at the speed of product development. Their blog is a splendid example of succinct writing that delivers value. Check out this blog post by Ella Webber. After three short, clear, introductory paragraphs, she’s already getting to the meat. No fluff. No time wasted. This is what online readers want.

  1. ConvertKit
ConvertKit is a popular email marketing software. I’ve visited their blog several times and can tell you I’ve never seen fluff in their posts. This post, for example, shows what I’m talking about. It’s clear and to the point.

Let’s now move on to Module 2 and learn how to plan your article for succinctness.
