Can I use AI in my copywriting?

Great question!

AI-generated content is now common practice for many, whether that’s in helping conduct emails to guiding blog content. At dslx, we’ve gone through our own trials with AI-generated content and developed micro-guidelines for how we think you can and can’t use AI in your work to benefit the most and avoid any pitfalls.

In short, AI can be a great aid to content writing processes, but it should never be a crutch.

The do’s and don’ts of AI content

Do:

  • ✅ Do use AI to help you organize your thoughts and ideas
  • ✅ Do use AI to help spellcheck your content (although don’t rely on it)
  • ✅ Do use AI to rewrite a sentence that sounds clunky to you
  • ✅ Do use AI to help summarize webinars, podcasts, and more, to give you a written overview
  • ✅ Do use AI to suggest similar idea topics in line with what you’ve already written
  • ✅ Do use AI to unpick and explain complicated texts like contracts, or highly technical content

Don’t:

  • ❌ Don’t use AI to write for you: whether that’s sentences, paragraphs, or entire pieces of content
  • ❌ Don’t use AI to be the last pair of “eyes” on your work
  • ❌ Don’t use AI to implement its suggestions without reviewing them first
  • ❌ Don’t use AI to help communicate with your colleagues or clients
  • ❌ Don’t use AI as a source of truth
